MARCH: Flavor of the month: PSP or DSi?

Well, its time for this months standoff, and do we have some contenders here for you tonight folks! In this corner I bring to you the heavyweight champion, he's here to tell you how its done, Mr. DSi, give him a hand!

Next, we bring you someone who has some considerable wins and knockouts on his belt, the up-and-coming king of the ring, please welcome, Mr. PSP!

Now gentleman, I want a clean fight, and I don't wanna see any cheap shots.

Ok? Lets get ready to rumble!

Well, lets break down our fighters and see what they are bringing to the table tonight.

Alright, lets look at the new DSi and see what it has to show off. First of all the obvious part is that it features not one, but two 0.3 Megapixel cameras. I am confused as to why they choose such a low powered set of cameras, when a single 1.3 Megapixel would have seemed to make more sense.

Knowing Nintendo though, they probably have some amazing multi-camera, card scanning, face rendering, geo-tagging online chat room with a printer, up their sleeve. The system also will feature a slightly larger screen than previous incarnations, as well as some on board memory expandable by an SD slot. It will additionally feature expanded wifi capabilities and the ability to download classic and homebrew games, at a price.

In comparison to the previous incarnation of DS, you will be loosing the Game-boy advanced cartridge slot, but hopefully a decent library of download-able games will make up for this. The DSi's price will be around $170, which may make it unpractical for current DS owners to shell nearly $200 for what seems to be such a small upgrade. Whether Nintendo will make it worth the extra bucks, we will see in the future.

As for the PSP, you can find them new for $170 and used at Gamestop/EB for $140. While there is no "New" PSP to speak of, there is a $199 Hannah Montana Entertainment Pack, with a purple PSP, some HM Episodes, and a 2 Gig memory card. I guess Sony decided to go after a fresh demographic and get more 12 year old girls playing PSP. -_- How cute.

Our next section will focus on game line ups and previews between the two systems, STAY TUNED!!

Gotta Git 'em While They're Young

PC Gamers frustrated at the influx of less civilized players who are migrating into their territory should check out the Ash's Thoughts podcast for a glimpse into what most of us knew, yet couldn't put into words. It scores about a 10 on the Richter scale of sensibility.

If you know someone who behaves themselves poorly in their online games, you would be doing yourself and the rest of your community a favor to get them to listen to Ash's words. Maybe if you're feeling extra heroic you could encourage them to exercise more civility when they address other players. No one likes to be cursed or belittled, not even the people most notorious for doing it. Although it is an easy recourse to fight back with nasty words of your own, you'll be helping the problem rather than nurturing it if you show these people another way. It sounds fruity, but what most people really need is actually just a little love, even if you're not going to be the one giving it full time.

PSP: FINAL FANTASY DISSIDIA: GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE

Final Fantasy Dissidia coming to North America this August with a totally new style of gameplay, that you can check out in this trailer.

SINGULARITY, THE VIRAL SIDE OF MIR-12

Singularity is a game from Activision, and it's somewhat strange marketing campaign has been proven effective through the interest it has generated for Singularity.

The marketing campaign started with a newscast that was posted on youtube and was followed by a few videos that seemed to aim at exposing something major that the Russian government is hiding. The back story for the game continued to grow, with potential players submitting information they have found while researching Natasha Norvikov, an assassin in the middle of the chaos. People interested in participating in learning more about the steadily unfolding back story can join MIR12 via their website.

As far as the gameplay is concerned it looks to feature a rewind aspect, that lets you restore a destroyed objects state. Lets hope this feature is more fun to use that it sounds. Check out the official trailer below.

PSP: PRINNY: CAN I REALLY BE THE HERO? - SHIPS TOMMOROW

Prinny is here, dood! Prinny, is a 2D side scrolling adventure game where you play as a peg legged penguin, who possesses the ability to fly with his tiny bat like wings. Now if this sounds strange to you then you probably have not played the Disgaea series, a niche tactical rpg series from Nippon Ichi Software.

Prinnies may be human or demon, but in either case, they are armed to the teeth, attacking with bombs, knives, and inexplicable charm. The game features a high energy soundtrack that is reminiscent of old neo-geo arcade music, which is is a plus in my eyes. Combat feels entertaining and brings in an rpg feel by showing onscreen numbers, to indicate damage.

Soaring over enimies to slash them from above, or shaping a wake of destruction in a tank, Prinny knows how to get down to business.

NEED FOR SPEED: SHIFT SCREENSHOTS

Some new Need for Speed: Shift screenshots have surfaced on Hungarian Simworld and I think we can all agree that they look notably clean, and somewhat promising.

Personally I feel the NFS series has lost it's preceding magic and now feels cheesy and lackluster. Shift is all but a last hope for some former fans of the series, and with the focus back on racing, (and hopefully away from bad licensed music and worse story lines), they can do nothing but pray for a strong return.

R6: VEGAS 2

I was playing some Rainbow Six : Vegas 2 today and I finally found a nice spot to use my bad ass orange camouflage. Gotta love the customization this game has to offer.

XBOX360, PS3, PC : F.E.A.R. 2 HITS SHELVES

Monolith's highly anticipated sequel has begun shipping to North American stores today, and will be available for purchase on steam and Direct-to-drive download service some time this week.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, published my Warner Bros. Interactive and developed my Monolith productions, will be available for Xbox360, Playstation 3, and PC. The PC version will be found bearing the Games For Windows logo.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is a first person shooter, and a supernatural suspense story with less than subtle horror undertones. The F.E.A.R. 2 story picks up about 30 minutes before the end of the original F.E.A.R., but from the perspective of a Delta Force operator who's squad is sent to arrest one of the games lesser known character, Genevieve Aristide.

The previous game was touted for it's excellent AI, and fans of the game are looking forward to the more dynamic and formidable AI opponent that is said to accompany the sequel. Whether it is the slo-mo combat or the innovative weaponry that had you playing the original, F.E.A.R. is back with improved terror and smarter baddies.

XBOX360, PS3, PC : EA ANNOUNCES NEW BATTLEFIELD TITLES -

On February 5, 2009, EA's Dice studio, announced two new installments into their shooter lineup, starting with Bad Company 2. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is said to feature an array of weaponry as well as vehicles, in a multitude of environments, including mountain tops and jungle rain forests. With emphasis on being able to
totally obliterate anything that moves, and a vast assortment of weapons, it looks like Bad Company's older, more experienced brother is here to make a name for himself. Bad Company 2 will be available for the Xbox 360®, PLAYSTATION®3 and PC, and will feature online multiplayer gameplay.

The other announcement, under the same Frostbite engine, is Battlefield 1943. BF:1943 will have players fighting in an intense 24 player multiplayer, set in a WWII era. Locations such as Wake Island, and Iwo Jima will see the heat of battle through dog-eat-dog trench combat and ferocious aerial skirmish. DICE seems to be sticking to their guns as far as gameplay format goes, according to Karl Magnus Troedsson, Executive Producer Battlefield Franchise, DICE. He went on to say "Battlefield 1943 is a new take on a blast from the past classic, coming to life with brand new technology that we're eager to get into players hands." in a press release featured on http://www.ea.com.

PSP: Resistance Retribution Demo REVIEW - By Coleman

PLEASE SIR, MAY I HAVE SOME MORE?

When I jumped into the Resistance Retribution demo, it was the first time I had ever heard or seen anything concerning the world of Resistance. My knowledge of the game consisted of that it was basically a next gen halo, a-la gears of war. The opening cinematic did a fairly good job of confusing me while trying to explain a long story in a short period of time. An in-game yelling match ensues between you and a fellow soldier, and the almost believable voice dialogue sets the tone.

The opening fight sequence has you stop and pop against some flying robot drones that look like they were torn from the pages of Half Life 2. The "hide" mechanic is automatic which seems to work quiet well on low cover and not as well the corners of walls. The aiming can either be done with the face buttons, or switched to the analog stick. Trying both ways I found that since I am used to aiming with my right hand, it was easier to use the face buttons to aim and the analog stick to control movement. Once I overcame the awkward aiming and realized that the auto aim took-over in a box that covered about 1/3 of my screen, my game play moved forward.

The textures in the game are impressively high resolution, and some of the best I have seen on PSP, next to God of War. Fog and lighting effects also seemed to blend well with the art style. Graphically the game ran very smooth with almost zero slowdown in larger firefights. As I ran frantically through the level, hitting switches and riding alien platforms, chasing the disembodied voice of a woman who was assumed to be in one of the many liquid filled tubes that were carrying human bodies to different locations within the alien base, I thought to myself, "how is she breathing, let alone talking?" The next room I was herded into gave me a nifty new weapon and started up a boss fight. The boss kicked my ass at first and the strategy to get his health down fast took me a few tries to master. The new weapon I received had the ability to deploy a small force field for a short period of time, giving me a nice spot to cower in, while the giant AT ST walker look-alike unloaded his laser chaingun. When I had lured him close enough to my platform I would hit a switch that would send electricity screaming down from the ceiling to fry his ass.

Although the controls are clunky, the auto-aim almost too easy, the storyline slightly cliche, and the demo very short, overall Resistance Retribution is one of the best shooter experiences I have had on the PSP. Clean graphics, great all around sound, and good use of artistic style had me looking for more at the end of this very short demo.

I rate this demo a 7500 out of 9000. Looking forward to the full release.

PS3: Linger in Shadows REVIEW - By Hooksmgee

LINGER IN SHADOWS IS SHITE

Like many new Playstation 3 owners I am very short on wallet matter (due mostly to the high price of the system). Not that I am complaining or anything, I think that the PS3 is the next best thing to smooth pussy. However, with dwindling funds I sometimes have to resort to cheap methods to quench my desire for new and sexy games. I scroll through the available downloadable content on the PSN and grease my way on by all the expensive and probably great
games they have to offer. I only focus on the games that I can currently afford (2.99 - 9.99). Plenty of options out there for a guy in my snack bracket, but what did I go and do? I went and spent good, rapidly depreciating money on possibly the worst game ever made... Linger In Shadows.

I know that there are some people out there reading this that are completely outraged because this game was not supposed to be a game at all, rather it was meant to be interactive art. Well I say "interactive art can suck my interactive dick!" I payed money to play a game, not to fast forward and rewind through some greasy haired art student's nightmare.

I'll give a short rundown of how this shitty art "game" plays out. You watch random artsy garbage float around onscreen, then you mash buttons and shake the shit out of your six axxis until it lets you progress to the next sequence of floating garbage. Then you repeat. The visuals had me on a bit of a high when the robotic tentacle beast was crawling out of the tunnel. Unfortunately that high ended abruptly when I remembered that I had no control over anything that was happening. Its almost like the developers were trying to fuck with me, by letting me turn its headlight on and off and wiggle its head to the side a little bit. After that there is
a flying dog that gets turned to stone by a black cloud. The end.

Also there was a creepy cat watching the whole thing and looking
pretty smug. Asshole. This shit made no sense to me, and if you say it makes sense to you then you are probably a greasy haired art student with ties to the terrorist organization that created this shitty game. It really seemed like the creators of this game tried to capture what is going on in some emo kid's warped mind. What's more is they took this despicable crap and stuck it in an a bottle marked "GAME" on a shelf in the Playstation Network. We all know what happened next.....a humble young drunk looking for his next fix got a hold of it and went blind. Then he wrote a review for the worst game in history.

I rate this "game" a pitiful 1500 out of 9000, making this title way under 9000!
