UT3 BLACK GOES LIVE ON STEAM

That big expansion Epic has been promising? It's now available on Steam. What does this mean for all you poor suckers who bought the retail version of UT3? Wipe those tears and plug your CD-Key into steam and hit the ground in a sort of stumbling run/crawl while it updates. And if you haven't already bought this game, there's no excuse to take advantage of the Free Weekend Steam is offering to try it out, then buy it for its ludicrous price of twelve bucks! Till March 15th anyway.

This patch/expansion brings us two new gametypes, three new maps, two weapons, two deployable items, a new vehicle and two new characters to mix it up with in the eternal struggle between red and blue. All that on top of a plethora of smaller additions and fixes to the game which will hopefully bring this game away from the simple nature of the console interface we've been enduring for so long. The expansion also boasts improved network performance and mod support.

Now's the time to dust off your copy and give this thing a second chance. Get some fun out of that investment you made so long ago.

Yes, it was an investment. One that is now paying off. I hope.

MARCH: Flavor of the month: PSP or DSi?

Well, its time for this months standoff, and do we have some contenders here for you tonight folks! In this corner I bring to you the heavyweight champion, he's here to tell you how its done, Mr. DSi, give him a hand!

Next, we bring you someone who has some considerable wins and knockouts on his belt, the up-and-coming king of the ring, please welcome, Mr. PSP!

Now gentleman, I want a clean fight, and I don't wanna see any cheap shots.

Ok? Lets get ready to rumble!

Well, lets break down our fighters and see what they are bringing to the table tonight.

Alright, lets look at the new DSi and see what it has to show off. First of all the obvious part is that it features not one, but two 0.3 Megapixel cameras. I am confused as to why they choose such a low powered set of cameras, when a single 1.3 Megapixel would have seemed to make more sense.

Knowing Nintendo though, they probably have some amazing multi-camera, card scanning, face rendering, geo-tagging online chat room with a printer, up their sleeve. The system also will feature a slightly larger screen than previous incarnations, as well as some on board memory expandable by an SD slot. It will additionally feature expanded wifi capabilities and the ability to download classic and homebrew games, at a price.

In comparison to the previous incarnation of DS, you will be loosing the Game-boy advanced cartridge slot, but hopefully a decent library of download-able games will make up for this. The DSi's price will be around $170, which may make it unpractical for current DS owners to shell nearly $200 for what seems to be such a small upgrade. Whether Nintendo will make it worth the extra bucks, we will see in the future.

As for the PSP, you can find them new for $170 and used at Gamestop/EB for $140. While there is no "New" PSP to speak of, there is a $199 Hannah Montana Entertainment Pack, with a purple PSP, some HM Episodes, and a 2 Gig memory card. I guess Sony decided to go after a fresh demographic and get more 12 year old girls playing PSP. -_- How cute.

Our next section will focus on game line ups and previews between the two systems, STAY TUNED!!

Gotta Git 'em While They're Young

PC Gamers frustrated at the influx of less civilized players who are migrating into their territory should check out the Ash's Thoughts podcast for a glimpse into what most of us knew, yet couldn't put into words. It scores about a 10 on the Richter scale of sensibility.

If you know someone who behaves themselves poorly in their online games, you would be doing yourself and the rest of your community a favor to get them to listen to Ash's words. Maybe if you're feeling extra heroic you could encourage them to exercise more civility when they address other players. No one likes to be cursed or belittled, not even the people most notorious for doing it. Although it is an easy recourse to fight back with nasty words of your own, you'll be helping the problem rather than nurturing it if you show these people another way. It sounds fruity, but what most people really need is actually just a little love, even if you're not going to be the one giving it full time.

PSP: FINAL FANTASY DISSIDIA: GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE

Final Fantasy Dissidia coming to North America this August with a totally new style of gameplay, that you can check out in this trailer.

SINGULARITY, THE VIRAL SIDE OF MIR-12

Singularity is a game from Activision, and it's somewhat strange marketing campaign has been proven effective through the interest it has generated for Singularity.

The marketing campaign started with a newscast that was posted on youtube and was followed by a few videos that seemed to aim at exposing something major that the Russian government is hiding. The back story for the game continued to grow, with potential players submitting information they have found while researching Natasha Norvikov, an assassin in the middle of the chaos. People interested in participating in learning more about the steadily unfolding back story can join MIR12 via their website.

As far as the gameplay is concerned it looks to feature a rewind aspect, that lets you restore a destroyed objects state. Lets hope this feature is more fun to use that it sounds. Check out the official trailer below.
